Emma Murphy married Robert D. Murphy.1 Emma Murphy was born on 31 December 1860 in Wayne County, Illinois.1 She died on 4 September 1947 in Golden Gate, Wayne County, Illinois, at age 86 ; Mrs. Emma Murphy, 86, Was Best Loved Resident In Community - Services Held At Golden Gate Church Mrs. Emma (Aunt Em) Murphy, 86, one of Golden Gate's best loved citizens, succumbed last Thursday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Hattie Hart, in Golden Gate. Death was attributed to the infirmities of age. Funeral services were held Saturday at two o'clock p.m. from the Golden Gate Methodist church by Rev. A.B. Gill, assisted by Rev. Roy Hudson. Interment was in the Union cemetery. Mrs. Murphy, a small woman with a cheery disposition, received one of her greatest thrills several months ago when she went on an extended trip and appeared on Tom Brenneman's "Breakfast In Hollywood" program at Los Angeles, Calif. She had been to California several times in the past. Emma A. Murphy was the daughter of John J. and Sally Wilson and was born December 31, 1860 in Wayne county. She was married to Robert D. Murphy, who preceded her in death 24 years ago. To this union three children were born: Hattie E. Hart, with whom she made her home, and two sons who died in infancy. "Aunt Em," as she was lovingly called, came to Golden Gate with her husband and daughter in her early married life. She was united with the Cumberland Presbyterian church before moving to Golden Gate, where she later became a member of the Methodist church, to which she remained a true and loyal member. She was very active in the church. She was the last member of her family, having been preceded in death by her mother, father, two sisters and one brother. Surviving are her daughter, Hattie E.
