He may have lived in Fleming, Co., KY circa 1840 because there is a listing of a Mahlon in the 1840 census. Various misspellings of Mahlon's name are found on many documents. Some of the spellings found are Malon, Maklen, and Maylin.

He appeared on the census of 1860 in the household of Alfred Hart and Julia A. Cummins in Delaware Township, Ripley County, Indiana,

.⁶ Mahlon worked as a Railroad Foreman.⁷ Mahlon (age at an unknown age ) and Mary (age at an unknown age ) appeared on the census of 1900 in Wayne City, Wayne County, Illinois, Mary is shown to have had a total of ten children, six of them were living at home in 1900. The other four may have died in their infancy. The children of the household in 1900 were Charles, Elmer, Maude, Ola, Tessie, and Ernest. Maude, Ola, and Tessie were attending school. All of the children were born in Illinois. They had a white servant named Jennie Butter (age 39) living with them, and also two boarders F. G. Thompson, a widower (age 34), and Bessie M. Thompson (age 5). Everyone in the family could read and write except for Mahlon's wife, Mary, and the servant, Jennie. Both Mahlon and his son, Charles, were working on the railroad as laborers. F. G. was also working on the railroad as a laborer. Mahlon was renting the home and the home was not on a farm.⁸

Cummins, circa 1877.^6,7 Mary Samantha Gray died on 7 August 1928 in Evansville, Vanderburgh County, Indiana, at age 71. She died at her daughter's home, Mrs. D. V. Underwood at the Bernardin Apartments in Evansville, Indiana. Her cause of death was listed as 'Organic Heart'.^8,9,10

Charles Everett Hart was born on 30 June 1881 in Mill Shoals, White County, Illinois.^1,2 He was the son of Mahlon Hart and Mary Samantha Gray.¹ Charles Everett Hart married Hattie Hart, daughter of Robert D. Murphy and Emma Murphy, on 21 August 1901.³ Charles Everett Hart died on 22 May 1948 in Golden Gate Village, Wayne County, Illinois, at age 66.^4,5

He was buried on 24 May 1948 in Union Cemetery, Illinois.²

He witnessed the birth of Elma Theodore Hart on 2 March 1883 in Wayne City, Wayne County, Illinois.^6,7,8 Charles Everett Hart appeared on the census of 1900 in the household of Mahlon Hart and Mary Samantha Gray in Wayne City, Wayne County, Illinois,

; Mary is shown to have had a total of ten children, six of them were living at home in 1900. The other four may have died in their infancy. The children of the household in 1900 were Charles, Elmer, Maude, Ola, Tessie, and Ernest. Maude, Ola, and Tessie were attending school. All of the children were born in Illinois. They had a white servant named Jennie Butter (age 39) living with them, and also two boarders F. G. Thompson, a widower (age 34), and Bessie M. Thompson (age 5). Everyone in the family could read and write except for Mahlon's wife, Mary, and the servant, Jennie. Both Mahlon and his son, Charles, were working on the railroad as laborers. F. G. was also working on the railroad as a laborer. Mahlon was renting the home and the home was not on a farm.¹ Charles Everett Hart lived in 1928 in Chicago, Illinois.³ He lived in 1941 in Goledengate, Illinois.³ He lived in 1946 in Fairfield, Illinois.⁹

Ernest M. Hart was born circa 1897 in Illinois.¹ He was the son of Mahlon Hart and Mary Samantha Gray.¹ Ernest M. Hart married Bessie J. Henry, daughter of ? Henry.² Ernest M. Hart died on 9 December 1964 in Deaconess Hospital, Evansville, Vanderburgh County, Indiana.^2,3

He was buried after 9 December 1964 in Section 12-1, Lot 752, Oakwood Cemetery, Mt. Vernon, Jefferson County, Illinois, (an unknown value).³
