(an unknown value). He appeared on the census of 1850 in the household of Joshua Barnard Addington and Sally (Sarah) Ingleheart in District 2, Ohio County, Kentucky,

.5 Davis Amos Addington appeared on the census of 1860 in the household of Joshua Barnard Addington and Sally (Sarah) Ingleheart in Ceralvo Township, Ohio County, Kentucky,

.6 Davis Amos Addington enlisted in the military service on 30 October 1861 in Warrick County, Indiana, as a Private in the 42nd Infantry Regiment, Company K from Indiana. He was a volunteer in the Army in 1861 and served his country faithfully for over a year, and was discharged because of a disability.

This regiment was organized at Evansville and was mustered in Oct. 9, 1861. It left the state soon after, going to Henderson, Calhoun and Owensboro, Ky., and thence to Nashville, where it arrived on Feb. 25, 1862.

It moved into the interior of the state, then to Huntsville, Ala., and back to Nashville. Joining Rousseau's division of Buell's army, it took part in the pursuit of Bragg through Kentucky and participated at Perryville losing 166 in killed wounded and missing. It was in the battle of Stone's River, where it lost 17 killed and 87 wounded, and then remained in camp at Murfreesboro until June 24, when it left for Chattanooga with the 1st brigade of Negley's division.

It was in the battle of Chickamauga, losing 8 killed, 53 wounded and 32 missing, and participated at Lookout Mountain and Missionary Ridge with a loss of 43 in killed and wounded. The regiment reenlisted at Chattanooga, Jan. 1, 1864, and was given a furlough during February. It continued to fight other battles.

The original strength was 1,O19, gain by recruits, 929; reenlistments, 215; total, 2,163. Loss by death, 254; desertion, 60, unaccounted for, 119.14,11 The next few paragraphs came from the book 'Addington Family Waltzing Through the Years': He left home on his 21st birthday and went to his Aunt Sarah (Sally) Addington Cain and Uncle John Cain's home in Warrick County, Indiana. On Oct. 15, 1863 he married their
daughter, his cousin, Elizabeth (Eliza) Cain.

Davis was mustered into the Army, Co. K 42nd infantry, in Warrick Co. Ind. to fight on the side of the North in the Civil War. He incurred a broken hip during the War from which he never fully recovered. He wore a built up shoe and walked with a cane to correct his limping. He was tall, had dark hair and dark eyes, a handsome gentleman.
As soon as Davis was able, after his hip injury, he was made wagon master of his Company, going up and down the Kentucky and Tennessee Mountains. Here he carved his name in a rock, which I am told, can still be seen today.
After he came home from the War, he studied to be a veterinary. The book from which he gained the most knowledge cost $4.00. People came from miles around to get him to doctor his livestock.
In 1881 Davis helped build Mt. Gilead Baptist Church in Warrick County, south of Boonville, Indiana.
Davis bought a farm in Warrick County about three miles south of Boonville, on what is now the state road to Yankeetown, Ind. Here is where he and his wife Eliza lived and where their children were born. Their children attended Masters Grade School.
Davis also had a fruit orchard on his farm. Their house and barn were made with logs. They built an ice house in the barn. It was packed with saw dust and corn stalk pith pounded in between the walls. The boys cut blocks of ice in the winter and stored it there. It lasted most of the summer. Here is where they kept their milk, butter, eggs, vegetables, etc.3
Davis and Eliza appeared on the census of 1870 in Boon Township, Warrick County, Indiana.15 Davis and Eliza appeared on the census of 1880 in Boon Township, Warrick County, Indiana.1 Davis and Hester appeared on the census of 1900 in Boon Township, Warrick County, Indiana.16 Davis and Lizzie appeared on the census of 1910 in Boon Township, Warrick County, Indiana.17 Davis and Lizzie appeared on the census of 1920 in Boon Township, Boonville, Warrick County, Indiana.18
