Fredrick Severs married Catherina Rhoads, daughter of Henry Rhoads Sr. and Katherina Rheinhardt.
I found this on the Genealogy.com Forum: I recently ran across some unintential errors concerning the family of Frederick Severs of Muhlenberg County, Kentucky and would like to pass on some info. Several people have put forward the belief that Catherina Botts Rhodes wife of Frederick Severs was the mother of all his children and suggested a birthdate of 1748 and death of 1837. Katie Severs, as she was known, was the mother of a set of twin girls and one son, the last of Fredericks children. The son, Gabriel Severs was my ancestor. To give proof to this I include the following brief obit which was published in the McLeansboro Times-Leader of Hamilton County, Illinois: Worlds Oldest Living Woman Dies Notified today of the death of Katie Severs of near Horeb, Muhlenberg County, Kentucky. The wife of Frederick Severs a Rev War soldier and early settler of the Green River area of Kentucky she was injured in a fall last week while returning from church and while seeming to rally she passed into the hands of the Lord this past Sunday. Mrs Severs, grandmother of local residents A.W. and M.T. Severs, had only been presented with a plack last year by the govenor of Kentucky which proclaimed her to be the world's oldest woman having been 117 at that time. She had just reached her 118th year, having been born in Bedford County, Pennsylvania in 1780 and married at 16 to the aforementioned Frederick. She travelled to the Green River country in a wagon train and yet lived to see many travel by train in a few hours over a journey that took her months. Her huisband died early in this century and in his memory she donned black and wore it until her death. She will be sorely missed by many of her friends and family who will keep her memory forever green. The above obit was from the paper published Oct 20 1898. I am the great grandson of the M.T. Severs mentioned in the obit, and as he himself lived to be 100 he passed some things on to me about the family. As Katie was born in 1780 she could not be the mother of the earlier Severs children. According to family tradition, she was 16 and Frederick 62 when they married. This is quite possible as Frederick had grown sons at that time and according to family he was born in 1734 in Fredericktown, Maryland before moving with his father Hans Pieter Sevrs to what became Bedford County, Pennsylvania. Signed Gabriel Severs.2 Fredrick Severs was listed in the Bedford County, Pennsylvania Militia in 1778. He was in Captain Samuel Paxtons Company, 1st Battalion.3 He left a will on 28 February 1804 in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky. The following is the will of Frederick Sevier's from the Muhlenberg County, Kenyucky Will Book: In the name of God Amen I, Frederick Sevier of the County of Mullenberg and State of Kentucky being weak in body but of perfect mind and memory, do make and ordain this my last will and testament as follows; Towit first I allow all my just debts and buriel expences be paid and Executers satisfied. I give and bequeth to my wife Caterina my dwelling house with fifteen acres of land round it her life time and her lawful part of all other property and the rest to my children as follows; To my daughter Susannah and my son John and my daughter Elizabeth and my son Solomon and Joseph and my daughter Emly Anna all there above mentioned to have on equal proportion when the State divided and my son Michael and Gabriel I give half as much as one of the above mentioned heirs and my son Jacob I give one shilling & sixpence and I constitute and ordain Solomon Rhodes and Jesse Jackson to be Executors of this my last will and testament disannuling all other wills and testament by me made prior to these presents. In witness where I have hereunto set my hand and find my seal this twenty eighth day of July one thousand eight hundred and four. Frederick ( Q his mark ) Sever ( Seal ) Witness: Henry Rhodes, Abraham Unsell Muhlenberg County, Sct. Aprd. County Clerk 1804 The last will and testament of Frederick Sevier Dec'd. was Exhited onto court and proved by the Subscribing witness thereunto and ordered to be recorded. Att. Chas. F. Gabriel Severs was born before 1804.1
He was the son of Fredrick Severs and Catherina Rhoads.1
From a message I found at the Genealogy.com Forum: Some have suggested that Gabriel Severs son of Frederick Severs and his wife Catherina left Muhlenberg County, Kentucky and moved to Arkansas. This is incorrect. Gabriel, as his father died young, was raised by his mother and much older 1/2 brother Jacob Severs. As a young man he moved to Posey County, Indiana (His 1/2 brother Solomon going to neighboring Warrick Co) where he farmed and became a Baptist minister. He left Jacob and began traveling throughout Southern Illinois, Kentucky, and Tennessee. He started a family with his first wife Catherine Gates but lost all but 3 children in a cabin fire. While travelling to White County, Tennessee while preaching, he met Mahala Almirinda Stewart, the daughter of Jesse and Jemima Stewart. When the Stewarts moved to Muhlenbergs neighboring county of Todd, he again became acquainted with Almirinda and they were married in Muhlenberg County. During the Civil War, and because the Bible did not disavow slavery, he spied for the Confederacy acquiring info while freely travelling through Kentucky. Late in the war seeing that the north would win, he removed to McLain County, Kentucky and sent his son to A.W. (Azariah) to serve in the Green River Battalion, a northern artillery unit which guarded the Ohio River. After a pro-northern man tried to kill him, he moved to Hamilton County, Illinois, taking his children, by now 6 surviving children, and wife with him. Gabriel Severs co-founded the Blooming Grove Baptist Church in Hamilton County and later helped found the 1st Baptist Church of McLeansboro (Hamilton County) and in Jan 1883, he died in McLeansboro at the home of his son Azariah and he is buried in the Blooming Grove cemetary next to his granddaughter Nancy "Nannie Mae" Severs. Gabriel Severs was issued a land patent by the United States Government on 11 November 1837 in Warrick County, Indiana. The patent was for 40 acres of land.2 Click links below to view supporting documents, photos, etc. for Solomon Severs. |

Jacob Severs was born before 1804.1
He was the son of Fredrick Severs and Catherina Rhoads.1
The following is from a message I found in a Genealgoy forum: Jacob was the son of Frederick Severs (according to his 1804 Will) and he moved into Indiana before it gained statehood. His first wife is unknown, but in 1815 he married secondly Cynthia Barnett, and in 1824 she signed the deeds with her husband when the land was sowed. She had a son by another man about the time of their marriage named: William Porter Severs. This family is well documented. Jacob raised the boy and went with his son by his first marriage to Montezuma Township, Pike Co., IL. There were still many Indians there when the old Jacob arrived there, and his son Solomon operated a ferry that crossed the Illinois River. This is all on the edge of the Mississippi River. Jacob died a few years after the 1830 Census taking, and his wife remarried William McPherson, whose family had also migrated there from Muhlenberg Co., KY. Solomon Severs was named after his uncle Solomon Severs (brother of Jacob) and he after his uncle Solomon Rhoads, a Revolutionary War Soldier.2 Click links below to view supporting documents, photos, etc. for Solomon Severs. |

Henry Rhoads Sr. was the son of Heinrich Rhoads and Catherine Cauble.1
Henry Rhoads Sr. married Katherina Rheinhardt.2,3
Henry Rhoads Sr. died on 7 April 1774 in Ursina, Bedford County, Pennsylvania.2,3 Also known as Henry Senior. Henry probably lived in Maryland and then settled in an area of Cumberland County, Pennsylvania which then became Turkeyfoot Twp., Bedford County and is now in modern time known as Somerset County. Perhaps he is buried in the Rhoads Cemetery, near Brooks Tunnel of B & O Railroad, Turkeyfoot Twnshp, Bedford County, Pennsylvania, now Somerset County. Will recorded in Will Book 1, page 5, at the Bedford County Court House, is dated January 28, 1774. Henry was a faithful member of the German Baptist Brethern Church, meetings were held at his Grist Mill until 1771 when his son Henry Jr. built the meetinghouse. He served as Supervisor of Brothers Valley Twp and was granted several tracts of land as early as 1762. On July 7, 1762, a warrant was issued to Henry Rhoads by the William Penn family Warrant #58 for 200 acres on the East side of Dunning Creek in Cumberland County, also Warrant #74 for 50 acres of land in Antrim Township Cumberland County which was dated May 3, 1763. Then on May 18, 1763 Warrant #80 was issued for 50 acres also in Antrim Township, located adjacent to Rev. George Adam Martin. Finally on February 13, 1773 Henry Rhoads received Warrant #24 for 150 acres of land in Turkeyfoot Township, Bedford County. On September 13, 1773 two land warrants to Henry Rhoads Sr. (this Henry) and Samuel Evewalt verify the names of Henry's children. The Evewalt deed dated July 23, 1775 conveyed his part to George Funk and Catharine Rhoads, widow of Henry Rhoads and to Henry, Jacob, Gabriel, John, Joseph, and Daniel Rhoads, Michael Sells and his wife Barbara, Frederick Sipe (Sever) and his wife Catherine, and John Swisher and his wife Susanna, heirs of Henry Rhoads, deceased. One would assume, based on his Will, that these are daughters of Henry and Katherina Rhoads. In 1770 Morgan Edwards' book Materials Toward a History of the American Baptists a list of members of the Stonycreek Brethern Church for 1762 is given, listing George Adam Martin and Henry Roth (Rhoads) first in a list of seventeen members. His wife, Katherina Rheinhardt, is named in Henry's Will along with his children. Katherina, aka Catherine is said to be daughter of Ulrich and Barbara Rheinhardt.2 |
